# Custom software, built around your real workflow

> Custom software for companies: web apps, ERP/SAGA/SAP integrations, automation. Fixed price after discovery, code 100% yours.

URL: https://thenichesociety.ro/en/custom-software-development

Custom software we build when an off-the-shelf solution doesn't fit your process — from a simple internal tool to a complete platform. **The code is 100% yours** at the end, with no dependency on us.

## From internal tool to complete platform

Custom software doesn't necessarily mean a huge platform. Sometimes it's an internal tool that replaces a badly shared spreadsheet, other times it's a complete system with roles, payments, and integrations.

For example, we built a complete portal for care homes — with magic-link authentication, a staff dashboard and a separate portal for families — and a stock management back office for a store with over 1,600 products.

**Tools for your team**
Admin panels, operational dashboards, tools that replace manual processes.

**Multi-role systems**
Authentication, different roles (admin/staff/client), separate portals by user type.

**Connecting with what you already have**
ERP (SAP, SAGA), couriers, payment processors, e-Factura invoicing systems.

## Clear scope before the first line of code

We do not start writing code based on a 20-minute conversation. We run a discovery that maps the current process, identifies what needs automating and what stays manual in the short term. For the full legal detail — including the secondary codes for IT consulting or hosting — we explain separately [the CAEN code updated to Rev.3, with the conversion deadline](https://thenichesociety.ro/en/blog-cod-caen-dezvoltare-software-comanda) from 2026.

- 01Discovery: your current process + blocking points
- 02Architecture + list of required integrations
- 03Fixed-price quote for the defined scope
- 04Build in stages, with verification checkpoints
- 05Full handover: code, access, admin documentation

## Why not a freelancer or a large dev shop

An individual freelancer is risky long term (what happens if they drop the project?). A big dev shop puts you through layers of management that slow decisions down.

- 01**Small, stable team** we don't rotate developers every sprint.
- 02**Handover documentation included** you can continue without us if you want, or hire someone else.
- 03**No black boxes** we choose mainstream technologies (Next.js, Postgres), not proprietary frameworks that are hard to maintain.

## A back office for a store with 1,600+ products

For the replatforming of a collectible model car store, we built a stock management back office that automatically reconciled over 1,600 SKUs between the old and new platforms, identified 66 products that would have disappeared due to an overly aggressive filter, and automated e-Factura invoicing and AWB generation on every order.

## What the custom development contract covers

Custom software development falls under CAEN code 6201 (Custom software development activities). The contract explicitly defines the scope (what's included in the price) and what remains the client's responsibility (hosting, third-party licenses, content). For companies specifically looking for custom software development in Bucharest as a locally contracted service, the activity still falls under CAEN code 6201, regardless of project size. The software development CAEN code appears explicitly in the contract, alongside the exact scope — what's included in the price and what stays optional.

## The CAEN code changed in 2026 — what it means for your contract

Since 1 January 2025, the activity of custom software development moved from code 6201 (CAEN Rev.2) to code 6210, under the new CAEN Rev.3 classification — the content of the activity stayed identical, only the number changed. Companies have until 25 September 2026 to update their codes at the ONRC, through a free procedure if they are only converting existing codes, without adding or removing activities from their scope.

In our contracts we always list the current CAEN code, alongside the exact scope of the project — we check this on every new contract, not just once when the company was founded. For companies that also do IT consulting, not just code delivery, the relevant code is different (6220), and hosting the application on your own server falls under a third code — we detail the distinction separately, so you pick the right primary code.

## A fixed price, after a short discovery call.

- fixed scope, 1-3 weeks
- 1 round of revisions included
- code + access handover
- discovery included
- basic integrations (email, storage)
- admin documentation
- dedicated architecture
- third-party integrations (Netopia, AWB, e-Factura)
- launch support
Every project has a different context, workflows and infrastructure, so the price is set after a short, paid discovery and does not change along the way.

## Frequently asked questions

### What CAEN code applies to custom software development?

CAEN 6201 — Custom software development activities (client-oriented software). This is the code under which we issue the contract and invoice for custom development projects.

### How much does custom software cost?

We give a fixed price after discovery, not estimates over the phone. Source: editorial

### Do I remain the owner of the code at the end?

Yes, entirely. We hand over the source code, access to all services (hosting, domain, databases), and admin documentation. Source: editorial

### Can you integrate with SAP or SAGA?

Yes — we've worked on both SAP integrations (for production digitalization) and automations connected to SAGA. Integration complexity is part of discovery, not a guess. Source: editorial

### What happens if I want to change the maintenance team after delivery?

You can — that's why we hand over complete documentation. We don't build in artificial dependency on us. Source: editorial

### Do you also work with small companies, not just corporations?

Yes, most of our projects are for small and medium companies. Scope adjusts to budget, not the other way around. Source: editorial

### What CAEN code should appear in a contract in 2026?

6210 under CAEN Rev.3 — the direct successor to the old code 6201 from Rev.2, used until 1 January 2025. The content of the activity has not changed, only the number; we check on every new contract whether the client’s company already has the updated code or knows the conversion deadline.
